The Rise of the AI-Powered Apps

The emergence of AI-powered content creation tools, such as ChatGPT, has brought artificial intelligence to the forefront of people’s minds when it comes to content generation. For most people writing blog posts, short stories, and other forms of content using ChatGPT is a boon, but for larger and more complex tasks, an opportunity has arisen for applications that employ guided workflows and iterative calls to AI to generate the desired content.

These applications incorporate methodologies conceived by their creators and combine human prompts with AI prompts to incrementally achieve a specialized outcome. Writing- and research-intensive fields such as legal, management consulting, and sales can benefit greatly from these new applications. 

These applications combine the strengths of AI algorithms with human expertise to streamline and enhance the process of generating complex deliverables. By engaging in incremental prompts and AI interactions, these apps can assist knowledge workers throughout the content creation process, saving time and increasing consistency. These apps have the ability to directly prompt different AIs based on needs. For instance, a deliverable may require a combination of AI-generated copy best suited for Open.ai’s API while also requiring ai-generated pictures from a different AI API. The app could also require AI-generated output combined with public or private data outside the purview of the AI’s large language model (LLM).

What’s Different Now?

Before ChatGPT and Open.ai’s API, this type of application creation was generally outside the reach of most. Instead of building applications that leverage AI, creators needed to invest money and time into building the models themselves. With the release of ChatGPT, there’s been an explosion of opportunities to move from workflow-enablement SaaS applications of the last decade to AI-powered transformation of these business processes. The ease with which these AIs can be harnessed has truly democratized the space.

It is important to note that while AI-powered apps provide tremendous value, they are not intended to replace human expertise. Instead, they augment human capabilities, freeing up time and resources for professionals to focus on higher-value tasks that require critical thinking, creativity, and empathy.
